The cold weather reeks havoc on septic tank. Although April showers bring May flowers, the warmer weather is accompanied by problematic spring thaw.

Septic systems work by absorption and evaporation. The saturated soil conditions influence wastewater flow beyond the tank. While the ground is already soaked with moisture, the effluent has nowhere to go. The soil molecules are so full of water they can no longer accept any addition fluids and therefore, flood.

Spring is here and the major cleaning around the house is starting. If you have a septic tank, you should include it on your to-do list of chores. Why? Well, it is important that septic tanks are cleaned every two to five years, depending on the water usage and the size of the family, and springtime, especially late spring, is the ideal time to clean the system due to the ground conditions being optimal.
